Illustration of the anatomy of the extinct old world monkey Theropithecus oswaldi. Based on one specimen it has been estimated that this species could have weighed up to around 72kg. They lived across Africa until around 400,000 years ago, at which point interaction with hominins (human ancestors) may have driven their extinction.
