Gen Montgomery At Work In His Flying Fortress -- Gen. Sir Bernard L. Montgomery commander of the British Eighth Army, writes at his desk in the bomb bay of the Flying Fortress presented to him by Gen, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Commander-in-Chief of Allied forces in the North African war theater. Gen Montgomery acquired the flying fortress by winning a wager that the Eighth Army would be in Sfax, Tunisia, by April 15. The Eighth Army entered Sfax April 10, and Montgomery wired Allied Headquarters: "Sfax taken. Please send Fortress." October 18, 1943.
