Table Bay and Table Mountain, Cape of Good Hope, 1860. Off the coast of South Africa. No part of the world, not even Tenerife, can boast of an aspect in which the sublime and the beautiful are so exquisitely mingled as the Cape on being approached from the sea. Seen at first from afar in blue outline rising from the ocean, by degrees the Lions Head and Lions Rump (as on the right of the Engraving) and the Devils Peak (on the left) present themseves to view, and on nearer approach the castle, town, and shipping fill up the beauty of the scene.
