Framed in a prong setting this is a depiction of an allegory of autumn carved with great detail. The hair of the women in profile is decorated with grapes and grape leaves; and falls onto her shoulders. With the head slightly tilted to the side the gems stand out due to their deep colour. The period of 1860 was characterised by a rediscovery of the classic antiquity. Etruscan goldsmiths technique; greek motives or roman material inspire the imagination of a time period in which the development of the Italian unification enhanced this interest further.A set; consisting of brooch and bracelet; with very similar gems is listed in Bennett & Mascetti on page 144.Art trade; Van Ham.
