Paul Scheurich introduced the group 'Dame with Moor' at the autumn exhibition of the Berlin Secession in 1917. He got the commission for it privately; from the Berlin banker's daughter Nora Allatini; whose original figurine is today in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Allatini insisted on a limitation of the design to only 2 pieces and declined an offer to sell the design to the Meissen manufactory. This incident was a main reason for Scheurich's contractual engagement with the manufactory; which then soon followed. The rights to the model of the figurine were only acquired years later. The two original mouldings were decorated by the designer himself. A striking feature is Scheurich's typical way of using colour; in which the white of the porcelain dominates and the figure's plastic expression is enhanced by carefully applied; delicate colour accents.
