On side A there are two figures on the left side facing to the right. One woman; dressed in chiton; holds a lyre in her hanging right hand. Clearly recognizable are the turtle shell and the elegantly curved wooden frames with crossbar and strings. The left hand has led her open to the front. In front of her stands one with a peplo stapled to the shoulders. She plays with bloated cheeks on a diaulos (double flute). This is followed by a frontal view of a woman in peplos; who turns her head towards the flute player and holds a cantharos in her angled; raised right hand. On the right is a woman wrapped in a long chiton and cloak; holding an oinochoe in her right hand. The figures on side B are painted more fleetingly. Again; four women are facing each other. The left one is dressed in a chiton and cloak and has her hands gesticulating in front of her body. The woman standing in front of her now holds a lyre in her left hand; the right one has raised it to speech. This is followed by a woman standing frontally and another to the left with her hand open. Both are completely wrapped in long coats. Who are the sitters? The group of eight women in total is reminiscent of the muses; so that the transition between an image of everyday life and a mythological scene is fluid. Are they perhaps hetaera; who were paid partners who served the men at the symposium? Pictures of the symposium show hetaeras making music and drinking.
