The Desecration Panel is a long group of rock art panels along the San Juan River in Utah. The were made by the Basketmaker Culture between 1500 BC - 750 AD. The area is now part of the Navajo Nation. The panel got its name in the 1960's after several of the figures were severely vandalized by local Navajos who believed the images were making them ill and that ceremonially 'altering' the images would cause the images to lose their power..
