The cathedral is famous for the "Strage del duomo di San Miniato" (Massacre in the cathedral of San Miniato) in 1944 (22nd of July 1944). It costed 55 victims. The incident was filmed with the title "La Notte di San Lorenzo" (USA: "The Night of the Shooting Stars"; Great Britain: "The night of San Lorenzo") in 1982 by brothers Paolo and Vittorio Taviani (Golden Palm in Cannes).
