Polished kingwood; gilt brass; inside cloth lining. Rectilinear body with contrasted base area on serpentine corner feet. Curved fold-out lid with movable carrying handle mounted on round fittings. Inside of lid lined with salmon-coloured woven silk cloth. Pierced; shield-shaped lock fitting. Hidden drawer on the side in the frame; to open by spring mechanism. Inside removable brass (tea)boxes; two with round lids with debossed stars; the middle box larger with two compartments and hinged lid. 16.5x22x14.5cm. Condition A/B.

A register of the production inventory at the end of the 18th century shows the large part caskets had among the offer of miniature works of the manufactory. A large portion of these models are now represented in public collections. The Metropolitan Museum New York owns a very similar casket with kingwood-veneer and engraved lock cartouche.Art trade; Van Ham.
