Field Marshal Montgomery - In 1948 when the Field Marshal became Deputy of Western Union the French Government offered him the historic Chateau de Courance as a residence. This delightful chateau with its extensive park like grounds some fifty miles outside Paris he new shares with its owners, the Marquis de Ganay and his family. The Field Marshal occupies one wing and the family the other. In these pictures he is seen in the drawing room, the dining room and on the magnificent staircase in front of the chateau which is a replica of the one at Fontainebleau Palace. January 10, 1955.
