MATCHING PAIR OF PANELS AND ONE YABAN CLAPPER; IVORY
China. 19th Century.

Ivory with age patina; remains of colours on the panels. The two matching trapezoid panels are in the shape of flat plates. On the inside in partly undercut caving two scenes of the 24 examples of filial piety. Left: Guo Ju finds gold. Right: Zhu Shouchang gives up the work as an officer in order to take care of his mother. Six-piece clapper with two thick; curved outer pieces. Width of the panels: 32;4 cm. Length of the clapper: 25;8 cm. Condition A/B. Enclosed: small; rectangular; slightly bent panel; pierced carving with four birds in a flowering magnolia around a window shaped like a flower.
