Pitted nails in a 36 year old Hispanic female with psoriatic arthritis. The drug adalimumab (marketed under the name Humira) has been controlling skin symptoms, but has not been effective at treating the joints. Psoriatic arthritis occurs in a small minority of patients suffering from psoriasis, a chronic skin disease in which itchy, scaly red patches develop on the skin. It is a painful condition that causes inflamed stiff joints. Adalimumab is a human monoclonal antibody that targets excess tumour necrosis factor (TNF) in the body, overproduction of which causes inflammation, swelling, and pain.
