Seville, Andalucia, Spain - 31 May 2016; no people in view. The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See in Seville, Spain, is the largest Gothic cathedral and the third-largest church in the world. Its construction took over 100 years, from 1402 to 1506. Here we see its Giralda; this serves as the Cathedral's bell tower. This is not how it started off life, however; built originally as the minaret for the Great Mosque of Seville in al-Andalus, Moorish Spain, during the reign of the Almohad dynasty, a Renaissance-style top and bronze sculpture was added by the Catholics after the Reconquista and expulsion of Muslims.
