Progress On "London's Eiffel Tower" -- A general view of the site of the new television station at Crystal Palace, atop a 300 foot hill, showing the progress of the new mast, which has now reached the half way stage. Work on "London's Eiffel Tower" - the huge mast of the new Crystal Palace television station has now reached the half-way- stage. Like the ramous Eiffel Tower in Paris, this mast, which is already one of the lanmarks of South London as it rises from the 300-foot summit of a hill, is a latticed construction. When complete the mast will be 640 feet high, with a 100 ft aerial, making a total height of 740 feet, the highest self supporting structure in the country. July 08, 1955. (Photo by Fox Photos).
