A Scene from the 20th Century-Fox Production - "How Green Was My Valley". Hollywood Paints A Hillside: This once grassy hillside in California's San Fernando Valley is now, for all intents and purposes, a black coal slag heap. For scenes in the Darryl F. Zanuck production "How Green Was My Valley" for 20th Century-Fox, the hill was denuded of vegetation and sprayed with black paint. Director John Ford is here directing a scene with Donald Crosp and Roddy McDowall as Pa and Huw Morgan. November 3, 1947.
