From Everest Summit -- A photograph taken by Mr. Hillary from the summit of Everest looking steeply downwards to the north. On the right of the picture can be seen the North Col over which the pre-war Everest expeditions made their assault on the summit. The North Peak is in the left-centre of the picture and beyond is the Rongbuk Valley in which the famous monastery lies.The East Rongbuk glacier is seen curling round to the right and coming back into the picture on the slopes leading to the North Col.
