Tree nursery planted between two seawalls along the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, as part of the coastal defences. This is a 7.2 metre seawall that replaces the previous 6 metre seawall. On 11th March 2011 a magnitude 9.0 earthquake 130 kilometres off this coast caused a devastating tsunami. The tsunami damaged the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station, leading to the meltdown of three of the nuclear reactors and a leak of radioactive material. Photographed in March 2020.
