Pancreatic carcinoma. Computed tomography (CT) scan in axial section of the abdomen of a 67 year old male with a pancreatic carcinoma, a malignant (cancerous) tumour (centre right) that arises from epithelial cells. Pancreatic cancer often causes no symptoms until it is well-established and untreatable. If pancreatic cancer is diagnosed early it can be treated with surgical removal, or chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Once it has spread beyond the pancreas the prognosis is poor. Here, the cancer has caused the bile duct (centre to centre left) to become dilated.
