Gastric polyps and endoscopy camera capsule. Endoscopic images of hyperplastic polyps inside a patient's stomach. Polyps are benign (non-cancerous) growths that arise from mucous membranes. Also seen is the capsule (white) from a capsule endoscopy. Capsule endoscopy uses a tiny camera inside a capsule in the shape of a pill, which is swallowed by the patient and takes pictures of the gastrointestinal tract as it passes through. The pictures are sent wirelessly to a computer worn on a belt by the patient.
