Ada Lovelace (1815-1852), British computer pioneer who worked with Charles Babbage (1792-1871). Born Augusta Ada Byron, she was the daughter of the poet Lord Byron (1788-1824) and his wife Anne Isabella Byron (1792-1860). In 1835, she married William King-Noel (1805-1893), 1st Earl of Lovelace, becoming Baroness Lovelace. From 1838, when her husband became an earl, she was known as the Countess of Lovelace. Lovelace taught herself geometry and was trained in astronomy and mathematics.
