Estonia; city of Tartu: Estonian National Museum (German: Estnisches Nationalmuseum; Estonian: Eesti Rahva Muuseum ERM); opened 29th of September; 2016. Estonian National Museum was built 2009 to 2016 by Paris based architects Dorell Ghomtmeh Tane. The opening ceremony was realized by Estonian president (Staatspr鋝ident; Pr鋝ident) Tomas Hendrik Ilves. The glass palace is 4 km outside city center of Tartu; is reachable via Roosi tee (English: Rose Street; German: Rosenstra遝). The palace catapults itself out of the landing strip of the former military airport Raadi. The airport was built starting in 1919 on the grounds (698 ha) of Raadi Manor House (German: Gutshof Raadi); and was extended; in 1940; by Tartu occupying Soviet army. It went into hands of German Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe (air force); from 1941 to 1944. In August and September 1944; during the Tartu Offensive which is also known as the Tartu battle or battle of Emaj鰃i (German: Schlacht am Embach; Estonian; Emaj鮡 lahingud; river Emaj鰃i); everything was destroyed. The Manor house Raadi; built in 1783; belonged until World War I to German Batlic (deutschbaltisch) aristocratic family of von Liphart. The manor house park was designed by famous Peter Jospeh Lenn? Great part of the art collection of the Liphart family went; in 1922; to University of Tartu (German: Universit鋞 Tartu; Universit鋞 Dorpat); where; in 1909; the first Estonian National Museum had been established. After World War II; the losses of the collections of the National Museums were enormous; tens of thousands of objects were missing. Worth of lost objcts was around 40 Mio. Rubel; today around 90 Mio. US-Dollars. Only part of the art collection of Karl Eduard von Liphart survived; including oil paintings and graphics; still in possession of the national museum. The new museum complex is at the end of the air strip near the former hangars. Last airplane landed here; in 1996. Until 1990; Soviet army (Red army) had stationed here
