The Mappin Terraces in the London Zoological Gardens. Donated by Mr. J. Newton Mappin, these terraces were erected in 1913-14. They consist of three successive tiers, i.e. paddocks for Deer, with caves and shelters, enclosures for Bears, and hills for sheep and goats. The rock work is built of reinforced concrete. The hills represent natural scenery and the terraces for the bears and deer are modelled on ancient Roman architecture.
