Leonid meteor dust trail. Meteor showers occur when the earth encounters a dust trail left by a comet. Over time, the dust disperses and joins the Leonid shower. The M31 Andromeda galaxy, our largest neighbor galaxy, and the M33 Spiral galaxy, one of our smaller neighbors, are visible at the bottom right corner of the image.
