Orion is one of the most famous and distinctive constellations in the winter night sky. Red-giant star Betelgeuse shines yellow in the upper center of the photo, and blue-white Rigel is at bottom center. Between Betelgeuse and Rigel are three distinctive, bright, second magnitude stars in a row, making up the belt of Orion. In mythology, Orion was the son of the sea god Poseidon and Euryale.
