Electronmicrograph of a schistosome. This schistosome parasite enters the body through the skin of persons coming in contact with infested waters. The adult worms lives in the veins of its human host, mating with a partner and producing eggs that pass from the human body, via feces and urine, into bodies of fresh water. The parasite causes fever, general fatigue, hematuria and diarrhea.
