Etching of the Colossus of Rhodes from the series: The Seven Wonders of the World (plate 2) by Antonio Tempesta (1555-1630) Italy, published 1610. This vast bronze statue of the Greek sun god Helios, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, stood at the entrance to the harbor at Rhodes, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. The statue, completed in 282 BC, was 108 feet tall. It was destroyed 56 years later in an earthquake.
