In Norse mythology, Heimdall, "the whitest of all the gods" with gold teeth and acute senses of vision and hearing, guards the rainbow bridge Bifrost, the only entrance to Asgard, the realm of the gods. He blows the Gjallarhorn, signaling the beginning of the Ragnarok, the apocalyptic battle of the gods.
