A cartoon and satire of the fleeing of Jefferson Davis due to the fall of Richmond to the Union on May 10, 1865. Near Irwinsville, Georgia, Federal cavalrymen apprehended Jefferson after he emerged from his tent wearing his wife's shawl because of the chilled morning air. Rumor spread that he attempted to flee wearing his wife's clothing. The story was featured in cartoons and popular songs.
