Two Wayang golek, wooden puppets used in traditional puppet theater in Java, Indonesia. The Wayang tradition dates to 930 CE, around the time that Hinduism was introduced to Southeast Asia. The plays themselves can be based on tales (usually of the romantic variety) from classic Indian epics, or on local happenings and other secular stories.
