Project vanguard is now in the critical phase of its scientific schedule with hundreds of private companies in the nation scientists working to perfect the satellite for launching in the International geophysical year. And in addition to the satellite itself other scientists are working on task of devising miniature instruments to go into the tiny spheres 10 1/2 pound area. Nearest completion of the instrument assembly shown here being developed by the Naval research laboratory. This will record the temperature of the satellite and whether tiny meteorites eroded surface sensitive microphones will also detect the number of meteorites that stratosphere. 10 June 1957
