Dear travel of the future. This 200 foot wingspan 'flying wing' passenger airliner, suggested by Mr Geoffrey Smith, Jeff propulsion experts and managing editor of the aeronautic magazine 'Flight', is visualised as the accepted form of airline of the future. By accommodating the passengers and enclosing the four gas turbines entirely within the wing section, 'drag' is reduced by a third by comparison with conventional aircraft. Intended as a 500 mph liner for operation at high altitudes, the aircraft is planned to have pressurised cabin accommodation. The 'flying wing' is already a practical possibility. On both sides of the Atlantic a number of examples, smaller than that visualised in the drawing, have been successfully build and flown, either as provided for under power. 7 January 1947
