Colour and pageantry came to the greatness of London with the Lord Mayor's Show in all its pre-war splendour. Crowds lined the streets to see the new Lord Mayor Sir Bracewell Smith, ride by in the great gold coach, accompanied by outriders of the Legion of Frontiers men, service contingents, Beefeaters from the tower tableaux depicting work and play. The procession made its way through cheering crowds from the Guildhall to the Law Courts, where the new Lord Mayor was presented to the judges of the King's bench, and back to the Mansion House.
