Lollipop Sunday was pretty generally accepted as the kiddies' day to buy the newly de-rationed sweets . Today the adults had their turn , especially in the City m where the lunch-hour crowds besideged the confectioners shops . Photo shows: Queuing up for sweeets in New Bridge Street at lunchtime . 25th April 1949. First attempt to de-ration sweets only lasted four months as demand far outstripped supply. Finally derationed 5 February 1953
