Sir E Hilton Young ( Minister of Health ) laid the foundation stone of the new Hackney Town Hall which is being built on a site oipposite the old one in Mare Street - before the foundation stone was finally sealed the Mayor placed in a cavity a cylinder containing a souvenir brochure of the ceremony with a copy of the Hackney Borough Council's Act of 1951 granting powers to carry out the scheme and copies of all the minutes of the council relating to it - the cost of the Town Hall will be about ?00,000 - photo shows Sir E Hilton Young laying the foundation stone October 23rd 1934
