New York: United Nations acting Secretary- General Mr U.Thant (left), prepares to address the 11 nation security council here last night, whilst Mr Valerian Zorin (right), Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister, confers with an aide. In his address, U.Thant made a dramatic plea to Mr Krushchev to suspend arms shipment to Cuba, and President Kennedy to suspend the blockade, for two or three weeks in each case, to ease the Cuban Crisis.
