THE "EGYPT'S" GOLD: EMPTYING THE GRAB The first chapter of the long quest for the Egypt's gold is described on Card No. 14. As she lay upright on her keel it was necessary to blast a way through four steel decks to reach her bullion-room. After three seasons of difficult and often dangerous work, the divers of the Artiglio (salvage ship of the Sorima Co of Genoa), opened the bullion-room on October 31st 1931. Success was finally attained on June 22nd 1932, when the first batch of treasure was salved. The gold was in bars varying in value from ?00 to ?,500 each, and in English and Australian sovereigns. Our picture shows the grab being emptied of its previous load.
