Three happy surgeons have a smile of achievement after they had successfully performed a hole in the heart operation on a little Russian girl Yrena, at the Institute of Chest Surgery. Left to right are Dr Melrose of London, Russian Professor S Kolesnikov and Dr William Cleland, who lead the British team of hole in the heart specialists to Moscow. The operation was performed with the aid of a British designed machine which takes over the breathingfor the patient. One of these machines has been bought by the Russians. 15th May 1959
