Including a bloom of every known species of orchid, the annual presentation by the Worshipful Company of Gardeners to the Lord Mayor of London of fruit, flowers and vegetables took place at the Mansion House, London. The gifts, made in accordance with the custom 300 years old, is in lieu of tax levied on Cheapside. Photo shows: The Lady Mayoress, Sir Frank Bowater, receiving the basket of every known species of orchid at that Mansion House, from Mr Ernest Thornton Smith, master of the Worshipful Company of Gardeners. The one the Lady Mayoress is holding is an orchid flower named "Lady Frank Bowater." 28 June 1939
