The end of London ' s first escalator . The first escalator that was erected in London is being torn down by workmen . the escalator is at Earl ' s Court station . It was erected in 1911 , and travelled at 90 feet a minute . Those to be erected in its place will move at twice that speed . The work is part of a big scheme for providing a new entrance from Earl ' s Court Exhibition and a 220 yards subway underneath Warwick Road and underneaththe District Railway track .
