A Bristol Bulldog Mk II A of No. 17 Squadron Royal Air Force at Royal Air Force Station Kenley , Surrey , registration K2216 following its accident ( left ) in which on landing while braking the plane overturned . The pilot was left the crash alive however the airplane damage was beyond repair . The crash happened during rehearsals for Empire Air Day which is to be held this month . On this day RAF aerodromes will be thrown open for public inspection .
