New BBC giant takes shape at Droitwich . Great transmitter ' s 700 feet aerial towers . The great 700 feet high steel masts , the highest ever put up by the BBC for the new high power broadcasting station at Droitwich , Worcestershire , have now been completed . The station which is surrounded by a ' hush hush ' air , will be ready for operation in the summer . An aerial strength up to 200 kilometers is available by this National transmitter and that is power enough to draw most of the European broadcasts . Each of the aerial masts is held perpendicularly secure by 21 steel guy ropes , anchored in 40 tons of concrete . The masts are allowed to give in a gale as much as four feet at the top . Two aerials will be installed . One , which will radiate the National Programme , will be slung between the two masts . The other for the Midland Regional programme will run from the top of one mast to the ground at an angle . A flashing beacon at the top of each tower will warn aircraft .
