Les Halles on a Saturday morning in winter in Rue Rambuteau outside the Baltard pavilions. A crowd has gathered outside the covered through road next to the fresh fish pavilion - "le pavillon de la maree", or "le pavillon des poissons" - where there is a Christmas flower market. The top of another Baltard pavilion is visible on the left. The church of Saint-Eustache looms out of the misty light. Photographer Harold Chapman recalls... "When I turned my camera to look at the crowd there were lots of cafes, shops and sellers of food and so forth on the other side of the road." The people are waiting outside for the flower market to open where they will be buying for Christmas. A policeman's kepi is just visible on the left above the lady's headscarf. Rue Rambuteau, Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
