Commercial top shell. The commercial top shell (Tectus niloticus) is a species of sea snail which occurs in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. The large shell has a thick inner layer of iridescent nacre, and the species is commercially exploited to make mother of pearl buttons and jewellery.
