Map of Ancient Hispania, 19th century. This map of the Iberian Peninsula in antiquity is divided by colour into the Roman provinces of Hispania Tarraconensis (yellow), Hispania Lusitania (pink), and Hispania Baetica (blue). The Balearic Islands are at centre right. The Iberian Peninsula was divided into these three provinces during Roman rule for around 500 years from the 1st century BC to the 5th century AD. The distance scales (lower right) are in Roman miles, Greek stadia, and British miles. Published in 'An Atlas of Ancient Geography' (1826) by US cartographer Henry Schenck Tanner (1786-1858).
