AZTEC GODDESS: COATLICUE. /nCoatlicue ('serpent lady'), the Aztec goddess who gave birth to the moon, stars and Huitzilopochtli, the sun god. She wears a skirt of snakes and a necklace of human hearts, hands and skulls. Her face is formed by two facing serpents. Stone statue from Plaza Mayor, Mexico City, 15th or 15th century.
