York Railway Station. 19th-century artwork of the railway station at York, UK, with a steam engine at right and passengers on a platform at left. Designed by the North Eastern Railway architects Thomas Prosser and William Peachey, this station opened in 1877. It had a high vaulted ceiling and columns, and was built as a through route to bypass the old station. It had 13 platforms and at the time was the largest train station in the world. This artwork dates from 1895, and is a drawing by US artist Joseph Pennell (1857-1926).
