Brotherhood steam engine, 19th century. Illustration of exterior views of a Brotherhood steam engine, a type of radial steam engine. This was a three-cylinder radial design. This design could also be used for other gases and fluids such as water. The design was by Peter Brotherhood (1838-1902) of a family of British engineers. Artwork from 'Chaudieres et Machines a Vapeur' (1911) by French civil engineer Max de Nansouty (1854-1913), part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
