Voyager 2 photo of the surface of Ganymede, one of Jupiter's moons, taken from a range of 312,000 km on July 11, 1979. The boundary of the largest region of dark, ancient terrain on Ganymede is to the east (right), with lighter linear features which are probably the result of an ancient meteor impact. The broad light regions running down the image are the typical grooved structures seen in most of Ganymede's light regions. The grooved band at lower left is cut, & appears offset by a linear feature thought to be the first extraterrestrial example of a strike-slip fault line like those on Earth. Bright rayed impact craters are seen all over the image.
