433 Eros asteroid. Computer models of the surface of the asteroid 433 Eros, constructed from images collected by NASA's Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) Laser Rangefinder, the NLR. They show the surface of the asteroid from different angles, and have been coloured to represent the gravity slope" at different points on the surface. Gravity slope is a property that results from Eros' shape, density and spin. It reveals the likely movement of a ball placed on the asteroid surface: the ball would roll fastest when placed on the red areas and would remain stationary in the blue areas. This modelling aids understanding of the evolution and internal structure of the asteroid."
