Effluent treatment pond. A foaming bacterial pond used for treating effluent from a paper mill. The bacteria in this pond destroy toxic pollutants in the paper mill's waste water. After treatment the water is clean enough to be dumped into local rivers without harming freshwater wildlife. Photo- graphed in British Columbia, Canada.
